It’s less than a 100 days(99 days 1 hour 51 minutes and 25 seconds to be exact) to go to the opening of the FIFA world cup 2010, and I’m literally losing control of my excitement to be an indirect part of this event. Well, I said indirectly (my work with ESPN revolves around Soccer !), not directly, so not a big deal actually. But then, I have always been a football-a-holic, since my school / childhood days, and hence the excitement.
Last time I witnessed the world cup, it was during my college days, and while those college moments won’t come alive this time, I sure do have plans to make this event one to remember and cherish this time around as well. Hell, I even dropped my plans for a B school experience this year owing to the world cup (it’s a little exaggerated, but none-the-less still a genuine reason ! )
Why so much excitement for just another football world cup ?? It’s not even a cricket event !! – I guess it’s just in my genes to love (and play) football. All of us 3 brothers have captained one or the other university football team at one point or the other. My brothers captained the IIT-D and IIT-K teams, while I captained the ISM team. So, really, there is no logical reason to any of this, it’s pure passion and love for the game !! Sometimes, that is how life is, I guess :)
Any football fans around in Bangalore ?? Would love to meet up with you guys, and watch a match on a big screen with a few kegs of beer !!..Perfect..huh !
