Yes, it has happened to a lot of apple fanboys…and it happened to me today. As they say – “A picture is worth a thousand words” – here goes the ordeal -
Broken iPhone 3G screen
Vodafone’s already announced that they are bringing the new iPhone 4 to India, hence the need to get my phone repaired, wasn’t really the initial thought. But then, I had recently heard of these guys at iFixit(who are known for their gadget teardowns (literally !) ), and quickly realized my situation to be apt for my own teardown.
So, with no further waiting, I quickly ordered the iPhone front panel kit, and hopefully in the next 14 days, I should be able to tear down my iPhone 3G.

my iphone 3g slipped out of my hand n now there are 100s of gray lines n white blank display the touch is working coz when i call on my phone i can slide my finger on the imaginary ‘slide to answer’ part n speak. i need only the display panel. please let me know if you were able to repair your iphone. also, my iphone 2g screen touch is not working (right side 1 inch). So much for being an apple fan!!

I did manage to get things working with my iPhone (using the iFixit Guide + kit). Now that you’ve reminded me, I’ll post my experience soon.
My iPhone 3GS took a dive in a bucket of water, now the touch works (can hear the clicks) but sadly the display has grey and white vertical lines. Did either of you guys order the LCD kit from ifixit to India? I couldn’t find India in the list of countries. A repair guy in Bangalore wants Rs. 4500 to fix it.
Did you try airing the Phone out for a little while and not charging it. Sometimes this helps. Try not to turn it on too much after being in water.

dont try open iphone i have bloweed my 2, 3 connector , i did sent to guy in us he is very reliable and he has sent me the phone back, so be careful while opening iphone, senting the phone from ondia to us dhl 2500, the back to india coustoms become a problem
